Helping to Power the Nation
Energy is at the heart of everything we do: Americans depend on a reliable supply to power their businesses and homes. That’s why, at MES, we believe all power transmission projects are critical. Our goal is to complete every project on time and on budget
The MES Power Team
We work with carefully selected partners to provide our electric utility clients the best combination of value, timeliness, and quality. Some of our partners include:
- Intren, LLC, a certified WBE IBEW contractor
- David Mason & Associates, Inc. (DMA), a certified MBE professional services firm
- Consulting Engineering Associates, (CEA), a certified Detroit‐based professional services firm
- Rand Environmental Services, Inc.
When MES joins with these and other partners, our collective expertise is unrivaled in the Midwest.

Completed Project
Gordie Howe International Bridge
Our team is performing system cable design, placement, and splicing; manhole inspection and abatement; cable pulling; conduit make-ready and installation; and manhole installation and repair for the relocation of underground facilities for the planned construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

Our Process
Our clients can rely on MES to expertly manage projects from start to finish
Material Procurement
MES has extensive experience managing both contractor-supplied and utility-owned material. We have access to two facilities in Detroit and Belleville for handling and storing heavy equipment such as transformers, primary switch cabinets, and warehouse cable. These facilities have secure indoor and outdoor storage capacity monitored 24/7/365 by security cameras and trained security personnel.
We meticulously record all incoming deliveries and tag reel numbers and footage. We also record when cable was loaded and left the facility, the footage used, and personnel using the cable. This keeps us accountable and ensures no valuable materials fall through the cracks.
MES is also committed to responsible waste management. All partial reels are returned and logged with remaining footage. It’s our policy to use partial reels that have a sufficient amount of cable left before loading a new reel.
Proactive Project Management
We employ several project management techniques and tactics to ensure projects move forward on schedule:
- Identify & mitigate adjacent hazards
Before installing cable, the project route is inspected for potential hazards. We place a manhole data tracker on all identified hazards and track them with ESRI GIS. Hazards are either repaired during the cable design phase or avoided by choosing an alternate route. - Accelerate the make-ready process
Executing the make-ready process while the design process is ongoing enables us to identify challenges earlier in the project, thereby avoiding construction delays caused by blocked ducts and re-design costs. - Pull‐ahead engineering & design
Establishing an inventory of available cable projects ready for construction provides maneuverability in the event of unforeseen issues that threaten to slow the project down. - Proactive scheduling
We develop and routinely review a 12-18 month project schedule to identify and mitigate system constraints enabling successful shutdown requests. - Contingency planning for field issues
MES plans for various scenarios, including rodding blocked ducts, reaming fiber ducts, and reaming or rodding clay conduits.
